Academic Profile
Bachelor of Science, Elementary Education, Martin Luther College, New Ulm, Minn., 2018
Background
I was born in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin in 1995. I am the second youngest of five children. When I was in kindergarten, my family moved to Oklahoma. I attended Gethsemane Lutheran School until we moved back to Lake Mills, Wis., in 2001. I went to grade school at St. Paul Lutheran School in Lake Mills, but my home church was St. John’s, Newville, Wis. (The little white church next to I-94 between Johnson Creek and Madison) For high school, I attended Lakeside Lutheran, where I enjoyed as many sports and extracurricular activities as possible. During my junior year at Lakeside, I met my wife, Sarah. I went on to Martin Luther College, New Ulm, Minn., to earn my teaching degree. My wife and I got married in May of 2017 and both graduated in 2018. After college, we decided to join an organization called Friends of China (now known as Friends Network) to teach and do missionary work in Southeast Asia. We were there about two years, when we were unexpectedly brought back to the states in late 2019 for security reasons. After this, we spent time subbing in schools around the Lake Mills area. In May of 2020, we received calls to serve at Friedens Lutheran School.
Why did I become a teacher?
My journey into teaching wasn’t a clear path. As I grew up, my interests led me into the fields of auto mechanics, building, and restoration projects. Naturally my friends and family suggested that I pursue a career in one of these fields. However, I felt a strong pull to a life of ministry for the Lord. While teaching academics is a priority, being a strong Christian role model and guiding my students to the Lord is a passion in my life.
My Favorite Passage
Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
-- Psalm 62:2
